Sunday Lunch German Style

25 people, some attending a WTA event for the first time, gathered at the WI Hall in Seasalter for a splendid German menu, accompanied by German wines.

On arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome, a glass of Glühwein, a German quiz, and tables decorated with black, red and yellow flags. The quiz was hard. Who knows what anti freeze is in German?

We then embarked on the main reason for being there: food. Lots of it. A potato-based Kartofelsuppe warmed us up, followed by a huge main course of Jagerschnitzel mit Gemuse—pork, red cabbage and potatoes. At this point some people were struggling, but there was more to come! A black forest gateau as different from that in a 1970s Berni Inn as could be.

We ended with coffee and Schnapps, and a raffle. The feedback from those attending has been excellent: “Just to say what a lovely lunch yesterday. I enjoyed the food and great company. I had a lot of fun with lots of laughs. Thank you so much.”

“I just wanted to say how much we enjoyed our lunch with you all on Sunday. My only regret was that my appetite failed to do the typically large German portion sizes justice. The food was really very delicious and your baker excelled with the Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte .”
